In both the Book of Mormon and the Bible, we are told that our Heavenly Father answers all of our prayers, though sometimes these answers take time.
One thing I have been praying and yearning for is my parents to accept me possibly becoming a part of the Mormon church. I realize for now that it is a long stretch and seemingly impossible.
One thing I came across today stated "The human family comes in every shade of difference. The greatest and smallest of us possess as many unique talents as we do weaknesses. Yet it is so easy to miss the common ground we all walk on." For my parents and I, while we have massive disagreements on what the "true" church and faith are, we still have this. We agree on many things. Many more than we disagree on. For example, both my parents and I believe in one God; our Heavenly Father. We also believe that the ten commandments we were given should be followed at all times. For instance, my parents have always taught me not to lie no matter what the consequence(s), because there really is nothing worse than not telling the truth.
In John 13:34 it is said "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you." This reminds us to love each other no matter what. My mother has promised to love me no matter what decision I make. Some of these decisions include joining the Church in the future, and other include present everyday decisions that we make. Heavenly Father reminds us daily to love our family. It doesn't mean you have to agree with them on everything, it simply means we love them. Love is the most powerful thing on Earth. You can conquer anything with it.
My example for this is a few years ago, my mom had cancerous thing on her liver. The doctors never said that it was certain she would die, but there was a possibility. She had one surgery and was fine. They then told her that they could remove the entire thing that was cancerous or she could come back in a year. She chose to have it entirely removed. The second procedure meant that there was an even greater risk that she would die. But my father never left her side. He loves her and supported her through the entire ordeal. This proves that love really does conquer all.
One other thing that we need to remember comes from Romans 8:39 "Nor height, nor depth, nor any creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Sometimes one of the hardest things in life is trusting God. Trusting Him can take a lot of faith, but loving Him doesn't take near the amount. Our Heavenly Father loves us no matter what we do in life. He trusts is to make the right decisions. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don't. But bad decisions will never make Him stop loving us. He always will. He is our Father. And He loves us very much for all eternity. So sometimes when you feel alone and you think nobody loves or cares for you, remember this: God loves you and He always will. He will never forsake you, it is His promise.
The other night, I can say I felt alone like there was no one there for me. I am not sure why, but it is the feeling I experienced. I prayed to God and told Him how lonely I felt and how much I missed the presence of the Holy Ghost. He heard my prayer and answered it. The feeling of the Holy Ghost returned. While it was only for a few minutes, it was enough.
Faith is what caused this. Having faith that our Heavenly Father will always be there for us. So trust Him and love Him. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to "cast all your care upon him, for he careth for you." Love your Heavenly Father and He will show you His love and care that He has for you.
Through faith and love, I hope my parents will one day accept me as a member of the Church.
